Coalition for a Drug-Free Muskegon – directly works to reduce substance abuse in the Muskegon area while establishing and strengthening collaboration among all sectors of the community with and interest in reducing and preventing substance abuse. Our mission is to reduce substance use disorder in Muskegon County through education, prevention, and treatment.
In 2014, the Coalition for a Drug Free Muskegon County received the “Got Outcomes!” award for producing the most outcomes in tobacco, alcohol, and prescription drugs. For more information, please visit www.CADCA.org

Muskegon Alcohol Liability Initiative (ALI)
Muskegon Alcohol Liability Initiative (ALI) – As a group of law enforcement officers and concerned citizens, our mission is to reduce underage drinking and alcohol-related injuries in Muskegon County. We believe that giving teens and parents the facts about drinking and encouraging constructive choices will lead to a happier, safer, and healthier community.

The KnowSmoke Tobacco Reduction Coalition
The KnowSmoke Tobacco Reduction Coalition – is a community organization dedicated to reducing cigarette use in the Muskegon Area. The coalition has three objectives: educate the public on the dangers of smoking, provide information and resources on how to quit smoking, and promote smoke-free environments in Muskegon County.
Here’s what we’ve been doing lately:
- Kick Butt’s Day
- Great American Smokeout (GASO)
- Tobacco Pathway trainings for smoking cessation
- Collaborating on a county wide Vape Toolkit for local area schools
- N-O-T on Tobacco
- Vape Patrol

The KnowSmoke Coalition celebrated and shared resources with Muskegon High School students on their last day of school.
Muskegon Alliance for Marijuana Prevention (AMP)
Muskegon Alliance for Marijuana Prevention (AMP) – focused on educating and improving awareness among parents on the effects and accessibility of marijuana in our community. (Our message is simple: marijuana is a dangerous drug.)
Here’s what we’ve been doing lately:
- AMP collaborated with the Michigan and the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce to do a survey collecting information on how marijuana would affect businesses.
- Hosted several Shattering the Myths forums at local area schools to raise awareness of the consequences of substance use.
- Increased awareness of the consequences of using marijuana and being employment through the High Doesn’t Get You Hired flyer.
- Partnered with the KnowSmoke Coalition to develop “Vape Patrol”.
- Created and distributed a marijuana school curriculum for health teachers and school resource officers to utilize.
Muskegon Area Medication Disposal Program (MAMDP)
Muskegon Area Medication Disposal Program (MAMDP) – is a collaborative of several community organizations that have come together so that residents of Muskegon County and surrounding communities would have a place to safely dispose of unused and expired medications and sharps.
Here’s what we’ve been doing lately:
- Organizing two yearly medication take back events hosted by the DEA, and educate the community on where to dispose of unwanted medication.

Emerging Issues
Vaping is a growing trend among teens. The CDC are investigating reports of respiratory illnesses throughout the U.S. To receive the latest updates on this issue, follow the KnowSmoke Coalition on Facebook.
